Position Overview

As a member of the Health and Safety Team, working a two (2) week in followed by a two (2) week out rotation, the Physician Assistant will report to the Team Leader Health and Safety. Physician Assistants (PA) are academically prepared and highly skilled health care professionals who provide a broad range of medical services. PAs are physician extenders and not independent practitioners and work under delegated medical acts. The PAs scope of practice is outlined in medical directives between the supervising physician(s) and the PA.

Occupational medicine is unique in its practice and requires a broad scope and can range from typical primary care, injury, and case management to complex emergency situations, often in the setting as a sole provider.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provide primary and emergency care to all patients onsite within the scope of the medical directives;
  • Provide occupational health services to include spirometry and audiometric testing, emergency responder medical examinations, respiratory mask fit testing, and custom ear plug fitting;
  • Record all patient encounters and document appropriately;
  • Report workplace injuries in accordance with WSCC standards and company specific programs;
  • Medical supply management;
  • Case management in collaboration with Human Resource Business Partners to include medical absence, STD, LTD, and return to work planning;
  • Health promotion program management;
  • Collaboration with onsite management personnel for the ill and injured worker and in the delivery of the health surveillance program;
  • Collaboration with medical providers in the delivery and management of patient care;
  • Emergency response team medical integration training.

Education/Experience

  • Graduate of PACCC approved PA program, or ARCPA approved program;
  • Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA), granted by the Physician Assistants Certification Council of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants, or Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C), granted by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants in the United States of America;
  • Current ACLS and ATLS;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Cority preferred;
  • Recent experience seeing undifferentiated patients in either primary, urgent, or emergency care settings;
  • Experience with audiometric testing, spirometry testing, fit testing, and Drug and Alcohol collection, considered an asset.

The Company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary, Yellowknife, and other northern fly points.
