Position Overview

As a member of the Misery Underground (MUG) Team, the Underground Dewatering Operator will report to the MUG Superintendent and work a two (2) weeks on, two (2) weeks off rotation at the Ekati mine site (day and night shifts). The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining our underground dewatering and mud extraction systems. This is a permanent position.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and operating underground dewatering/mud extraction system, including sump inspections;
  • Transporting various contractors/skilled trade personnel underground as required;
  • Stocking underground storages with company supplied consumables;
  • Inspecting common walkways (surface infrastructure, portals, and other commonly traveled areas) during winter season and managing snow removal and application of sand as required with skid steer;
  • Auditing secondary spill containment under parked equipment as per the water license for Misery;
  • Assisting Site Services with Misery surface dewatering during dewatering season;
  • Daily inspections of assigned surface and underground areas;
  • Practice good housekeeping at all times to ensure a safe and clean worksite, including general housekeeping, and organizing laydowns;
  • Safe operation of all vehicles and equipment, with good knowledge of site locations and roadways;
  • Monitoring waste management collection area for contractor compliance;
  • General labour duties as assigned by supervisor;
  • Always protect the safety and well-being of yourself and your co-workers. Follow all Company specific safety protocols and Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures.

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent;
  • Minimum of 2 - 3 years’ experience, preferably in a mining or industrial environment;
  • Experience with underground mining is considered an asset;
  • Ability to work comfortably in a surface or underground environment, working from heights and in confined spaces;
  • Familiarity with basic mine practices and safety;
  • Ability to operate small equipment: personnel carrier, Skid steer, small front-end loaders;
  • Working knowledge of SAP and basic computer literacy with willingness to learn new computer skills would be an asset;
  • Work around and with various sized electric and diesel pumps;
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team to achieve best-in-class efficiency and productivity;
  • Class 5 driver's license is required.

The Company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary, Yellowknife, and other northern fly points.
