Position Overview

Reporting to the Manger, Environment and Permitting, and working closely with other environment and engineering professionals at both the Calgary office and Ekati site, the Advisor, Water Management’s primary responsibility is to perform water management planning and execution at Ekati Diamond Mine.

The successful candidate will be required to work a Monday to Friday (5x2) schedule at the Yellowknife Office in Northwest Territories, with occasional travel to the Ekati mine site, Indigenous communities, and general travel, as dictated by business needs. 

Job Duties/Responsibilities 


• Lead Life-of-Mine and mid-range water management planning, including but not limited to underground working and open pit dewatering, lake/pond water transfer, mine water      discharge 
• Lead water balance and water quality model development, maintenance and updates 
• Manage and direct water balance and quality databases maintenance and updates 
• Lead water management plan and procedure development, maintenance and update 
• Manage water management consultants in surface water and groundwater model development and report preparation 
• Lead water management risk identification/mitigation and related communication with internal and external stakeholders 
• Participate in water management related permitting proceedings and stakeholder engagement events 
• Provide water management inputs during Life-of-Mine and mid/short-range mine planning processes 
• Provide training and guidance to other staff on water management principles and plans 
 
Education/Experience


• Bachelor degree in geoscience or engineering with focus on water management   
• Master’s degree and relevant professional designation would be considered an asset 
• 10+ years of progressive technical experience in mine water management and planning 
• Working knowledge in water management/modelling and database management software 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in the consulting or mining industry, and in northern Canada. 

The successful candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to prioritize competing demands and effectively manage a wide variety of activities while meeting established deadlines. The successful candidate will be able to work independently on projects from conception to completion and to work collaboratively and interact respectfully with people from internal departments and external organizations.
