Position Overview

 

Reporting to the Production Manager and working two (2) weeks on two (2) weeks off rotation at the Ekati Mine site, the Superintendent – Surface Mining will be responsible for the safe, cost effective, efficient and environmentally responsible surface mining operations at the Ekati Diamond Mine.

 

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

 

  • Support the concept of Zero Harm through effective safety, health and environment management practices;
  • Application of a broad knowledge of mining practices, production principles and equipment operations for providing continuous and reliable mining operations that meet day-to-day production requirements and project deliverables.
  • Directing all aspects of surface mining in compliance with mine plans, coaching, mentoring and setting targets for surface mining supervisors.
  • Liaising with the mobile maintenance team to maximize performance of the mobile equipment and the maintenance scheduling process
  • Developing talent and ensuring succession planning within the department.
  • Supervising and evaluating the performance of the team.

 

  Education/Experience

 

  •          Degree in Mine Engineering combined with 10 years mining experience
  •          A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience
  •          Equivalencies will be considered

The Company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary, Yellowknife, and other northern fly points.
